2012-2014 TA02011031 Surface Integrity Research after Impementing New Progessive Techniques of Machining Using 4 and 5 Axis Milling Machining Centers
  The project is focused on research of technological conditions for machining on 4 and 5-axis milling centers, enabling efficient use of new manufacturing facilities for machining freeform surfaces of superalloys. Mastering this technology will replace used grinding technology. This will lead to redistribution of temperature fields between the tool and workpiece, so as a result of a change in residual stresses, which is critical for the aerospace applications.

2012-2014 TA02011367 Research of Pressing Tools Service Life Extension for Refractory Highly Abrasive Materials
  The project is aimed at research and development of new type of moulds for production of refractory and highly abrasive objects. The goal is to increase moulds’ abrasive resistance leading to longer service life due to introduction of new construction solutions and modern plasma deposited ceramic coatings. Based on the obtained knowledge, a prototype will be made and tested. Innovations will result in substantial increase of competitiveness and economic performance of the submitter.

2011-2013 FR-TI3/711 Research and Development of Design and Manufacturing Technology of a System for Purification of Municipal and Industrial Sludge Based on the Centrifugal Principle
  The aim of the project is to develop a new type of decanter centrifuges (devices for dewatering of sludge) in collaboration with other participant, whose function is based on the principle of of counter-flow spin, using perforated screw with a capacity of 5 cubic meters of sludge per hour. Research should focus not only in the constructions decanter centrifuges in terms of its technological parameters and use appropriate materials, but also in research of technological conditions for machining with regard to the residual stress in the surface layers after machining for increased durability in dynamic stress. The manufacturing process of the newly developed product will also be assessed in terms of research of technical and organizational issues with regard to the Lean Production System to minimize losses in production using the tools of computer simulation of manufacturing processes and systemsto ensure the quality of both product and production process.

2009-2012 GA101/09/0504 Research of Influence of Finishing and Progressive Methods of Machining on Function Properties of Design Notches in Term Possible Catastrophic Effects
  Project deals with the detection of effect of single finishing cuts and their cutting conditions including the progressive methods (high speed cutting, new materials, dry machining) to the fatigue strength of design notches. Conclusion will be the optimization of the notch from the point of view the applied method of machining at the formation of notch and finishing of surface. The effects of single parameters of finishing methods will be examined in relation to fatigue of a machine part, which isprovided with the notch. The changes of the surface integrity will be observed also in a fatigue test course, the preferred properties will be determined for the prediction of the fracture in the notch location. At the close the process of the machining will be optimized in relation to the design notch, its manufacturing and a used finishing method of surface.

2006-2008 GA 101/06/0226 Surface-Modified Carbon Composites as Potential Implants into Human Body
  The surface geometry and chemical composition of artificial implants are decisive for the integration of these materials with surrounding tissue. The aim of this project is to elaborate new types of coatings and other surface modifications of compositematerials developed for possible use in hard tissue surgery (e. g., carbon fibre-reinforced carbon composites, CFRC). These coatings, consisting of DLC (Diamond Like Carbon), carbon nitride, silicon nitride, metallic nitrides (e.g., TiN), metals (Ti) oroxides (silicon or metal oxides), and fabricated by physical and chemical deposition methods, are expected to improve the cohesion of the carbon matrix in CFRC as well as the adhesion, growth and differentiation of osteogenic cells on these materials.The material biocompatibility will be further enhanced by irradiation with a laser beam, grinding and lapping. A contact profilometer, together with atomic force microscopy (AFM) will be used to evaluate the material surface geometry.

2006-2008 GA101/06/0508 Research of Surface Properties and Surface Layer in Consideration of the Possible Catastrophic Implications on the Function of Machine Parts
  Project objective is the research of an effect of the machining process on the surface properties, surface load capacity and surface changes under the both, routine operation and a corroding medium. At the solution the phenomena will be described, whichmeaningly affect at the formation of a new surface. These phenomena are also significant for the surface functional properties. On the base of the research and its analysis the restrictions of the cutting conditions will be formulated with respect to thesurface integrity and its meaning for the functionality and the machine parts durability. The gained knowledge on the machined layers behaviour under the loading will be published. This behaviour will be observed in the different environment, modellingthereal working conditions of the machines. The prospective knowledge is significant for the manufacturing of the loaded machine parts in the critical surroundings - aircraft turbo jet, vanes of turbo compressors,bore rods,vehicle parts etc.

2004-2006 GA 106/04/0122 Study of the Properties of Model Copper Alloys with Reduced Low Melting Metals, Intended for Cutting
  The present legislation has radically reduced the content of lead in Cu alloys (brasses and bronzes) coming in a direct contact with the water. The lead content is limited to max. 1 wt. %. From our previous works (Grant project 106/99/1476), it was obvious that one of the solution to this problem is the replacement of the lead by low-melting, non-toxic Bi in combination with remaining alloying elements. The bismuth a+b brasses type CuZn40Bi1,5(P) show similar extrubility, forgeability, stress-corrosion behaviour, dezincification and machinability as lead-containing standardised machinable brasses CuZn40Pb2 a CuZn39Pb3. But in coppers and a brasses (Zn <33 %), bismuth causes a significant reduction of plastic properties resulting in the devaluation of these materials. For these reasons a possible introduction of new machinable a+b brasses with the bismuth content (CuZn40Bi1,5(P)) into the metallurgic practice will require strict precaution to prevent the bismuth penetration…

2002-2004 GA 101/02/0202 Terminology of Machining and Assembly
  The project solves the creation of the terminology for the field of the machining and assembly. The prominent specialists of the workplaces of the universities will make up the terminology. The terminology will be issued as the special book in the presumed volume from 300 to 350 pages. The disunity of the terminology is the reason of the execution in present, the problems arise at the study of a special literature, at the teaching and in the production owing to heterogeneity of the interpretation of the number of terms. The terminology will be created also in English, the terms translation will be discussed with the foreign workplaces. The time plan of the creation of the terminology takes a demand factor of the project into consideration and proposes its creation in the course of three years. The work team of the terminology creation already was set up and there was the work opened.
